I'm a writer who likes thinking and talking about politics, entertainment, books, and philosophy.
Nathan Muir (Robert Redford's character in Spy Game) legitimately changed my approach to problem solving. I went from "carefully follow an outlined set of procedures" to "be wildly creative with whatever is available to you." Genuinely an influence on my life.

RIP. Dinner Out will always be ago.

My first story for Warhammer 40,000 will be coming out in print later this year! I'm so happy I'll be able to put this on my shelf. Lots of other great stories in here too!

Quite a thing that Ghost released a new album -- scheduled for months -- on the same week that the pope died.

Christopher Columbus has nothing, at all, to do with the land that eventually became the United States. We have no reason to keep venerating him (we never should have in the first place).

Finally rewatched The Shining for the first time after reading the novel.

I get why Stephen King hated it: it's a great film but a terrible *adaptation*.

The *entire* book is about alcoholism; the haunted hotel is a side story. The movie barely even explores alcohol beyond one key scene.

I have watched every single episode of Top Gear and The Grand Tour at least once.

I have probably watched the specials -- this is not a joke -- over 100 times each. They're what I watch to chill out before bed.

The shows started my love of cars.

It is nice when a dead band I always regretted not seeing has the decency to reform itself and then go on tour less than a week later starting with the city I live in.

Alien: Romulus was a really great entry in that franchise, though not top-tier. It's very straightforward -- it's a long ways from the heady thoughts Prometheus had on its mind. But if you want Aliens, it does not disappoint you.

FINALLY got Great Battles of Caesar to the table. Battle of the Rhine (vs Ariovistus and his Germanic hordes). The Romans absolutely wipe the floor with them; the barbarians' ferocity just wilts in the face of a disciplined army. Amazing way to model how different army doctrines worked.

House of the Dragon is just such an exquisite thing. The deliberateness of the pacing, the conflict between characters in small scenes, and then the massive scale (literally) action. There's just no one that does it like George R.R. Martin.

My first ever story for Warhammer 40,000 has been published!

When I was asked to do a story for the Sisters of Battle, what I locked in on was the question: what does *too* much faith look like, even for a fanatic?

Part of a bundle of other stories!

2024 democracy so far:

INDIA: The right loses ground (after they were expected to gain a supermajority!)

EU: The right is denied, the center holds

BRITAIN: The right is routed (though the hard right gains in the share of what remains)

FRANCE: The right is unexpectedly denied the majority

Come on America. This is the new high bar. We can beat it.

My Bahmani just barely clutch out the win thanks to an early invasion by Timur. Just one more turn and the Delhi Sultanate might have survived the era. But a string of forts and dominant influence won the day.

I remember there was an original Conan the Barbarian story where everybody is deeply bothered by some impossible event... except for Conan, who is so simple-minded that he just figures the phenomenon is magic, and moves on with his life.
