This is so true. I teach music composition at a music college and it is shocking to me how many late semester students land in my classes and can’t name a composer or arranger who can act as a model for their own work. They’re not listening to music that sounds like the music they’re trying to make.

This is 100% true. I regularly have half the class not even attempt major assignments. They also come to me when I put a zero for the assignment confused and offended that I didn’t do the assignment for them. Historically it would only be one or two students a semester— it is really out of control.
