@georgeelliot19.bsky.social we have common ground in the need for a major reduction. Note though, even land not suitable for crops can have major biodiversity value. And the logic you shared doesn't acknowledge major increase in food, on less land, with plants.
I cover this in detail in the report.

Food systems are the #1 driver of environmental breakdown, public health crises & inequity, based on new EAT-Lancet report by 50+ experts in 35+ countries.
Findings:
❤️🩹 Prevent ~15M deaths/yr by shifting to this mostly plant-based diet

JBS, the world’s biggest meat producer, leads deforestation & methane emissions - and now faces for more slavery-like abuses.
So Brazil’s labor minister steps in to protect... JBS, not workers.
The only logic here is to cut demand for animal-sourced foods & enforce strict accountability.

Agriculture drives more biodiversity loss than any other sector, with ruminant meat causing extinction risks ~340× higher than grains by mass and ~100× higher than legumes both by mass and when adjusted for protein.

Animal scientists like Frank here are closer to industry vets & reps than climate scientists.
They play the victim pretending they are aligned for working class farmers but are paid by the billionaire corps hurting farmers & externalizing eco & economic impacts that burden us all.

If GWP* lobbying is successful, this could lead to some of the single highest methane emitting companies or countries falsely getting credit for cooling.
There are broader issues too. This sketchy accounting could justify increasing an areas fossil fuel sector.

“…increasing numbers is directly linked with increasing CH4 emissions... continued global livestock population growth between 1990 and 2019, including increases of 18% in cattle and buffalo numbers, and 30% in sheep and goat numbers, correspond[s] with CH4 emission trends” (IPCC, AR6 WGIII, p771).

Rich countries’ meat & dairy aren’t feeding the world.
Under 6% goes to nations where most underfed people live & 70%+ stays in rich markets & extracts global resources.
Meanwhile, we know that systemic shifts plant-based could feed 3.5B more people.

New study makes clear that every scenario that kept the food system within safe limits required the largest possible cut in animal-source foods.
Even the most ambitious mix of other measures could not offset high meat and dairy consumption.

Atlantic Canada, where I am now, is abnormally dry & there's wildfires.
So governments are restricting ATVs, bonfires, woods access, etc.) & disinfo/conspiracies are rampant.
It's the right call BUT industry that amplifies this with clearcuts - and land converted for animal ag - gets a free pass.

Plant based products will continue to get better, but I'm not convinced the issue is really the ingredients list.
It's disinformation. And a culture of insecure men clinging to traditions of dominance and power.

I know an old post but it showed up in a thread.
This was our attempt, but it admittedly got overly complicated. Brandolini's law.

Do you think volatile contract low-paying chicken or pig farming, or in a slaughterhouse, are dignified jobs worth fighting for when there's better options that also help the planet?

Wow many were dead wrong on their projections for how quickly the cost of solar would decline.
The actual progress is off the charts.
Overall consumption is still skyrocketing though, and a minimalist culture is equally needed.
But there's lessons here.

Many people are also employed in fossil fuels. Just transition is key, and as I said, rich countries are the focus.
You should be aware of the opportunities in shifting plant based too, if able to shake the ideology you seem to have: publications.iadb.org/publications...

The meat industry is following a classic playbook, fuelling cultural divides and spinning deception to delay the shift away from arguably the most environmentally damaging human practice.

Improving farming practices are worthwhile but nothing compares to shifting our food system more plant-based.
This graph makes that clear and is only showing GHGs, not the huge land opportunities.
In shifting methods of food production, we might also feed less & emit more (grass-fed beef).

As I predicted years ago, tools like GWP* are used to downplay methane from cattle.
This is equivalent to letting fracking companies ignore methane leaks if the leak stays “steady”

The study claims higher biodiversity & soil organic carbon but of course doesn't compare to the native forests around the farms affected by continuing to use the land for grazing ruminants:
