Delays in delivering major IT projects result in contracts for existing systems being repeatedly extended well beyond their intended life – on average by about 8yrs.
Across 5 projects which each experienced delays, contract extensions cost over £573m.

Our report looks at a portfolio of 29 major IT projects across NI government departments. The portfolio has a total estimated cost of £5.2bn – over 2/3 of the costs & nearly 1/2 the projects relate to the Department of Health & Department of Finance.

Resourcing issues & capacity constraints are hampering the PSNI’s efforts to reduce costs & modernise its fleet. Despite spending £26m on new vehicles since 2021-22, over 25% is 10+ yrs old. In 2024, 350 vehicles were off the road daily due to repairs

Our report on found that around 6% of total expenditure on homelessness services is directed at preventing homelessness, despite this being at the very heart of the Housing Executives Homelessness Strategy.

Todays report on homelessness found that over £12m of spend on temporary accommodation for the homeless was used on hotels and B&Bs last year.
Only 10% of households are placed in hotels and B&Bs, but they account for over 30% of annual spend.
