That said, I think given the scale of several prior Mediterranean/Middle Eastern empires, the importance of supply chains was very well understood

Given both the refusal to negotiate peace after Cannae and the Fabian strategy that was followed (but abandoned) prior to the battle, I think you are right.

But the priest is very much a Trump type character. It’s largely a group with shared hatreds - it makes perfect sense that they would turn on one another - look at the frictions we have seen in the Trump administration!

One small point - they were recognising loans to customers as assets correctly. Debt that you owe is a liability, debt you are owed is an asset.

Good that there is no cap. If there had been I think it there is a very big difference between a cap of 100-200k and a cap of 600k plus - ie numbers that Ukraine would never sustain in peace time.

There are 1.3 million active military personnel in the US, a country 8 times the size. Ukraine cannot sustain an 800k army in peace time - it’s an absurdly high number that they won’t get near!

I think he’s had a crisis about the lack of male heir (as if it’s the 18th century), decided he needs a wife then described his dream woman as if that were open to him at 79…
In fairness he has made some compromises - he doesn’t *demand* a helicopter licence.

I like that the wife “must be at least 20 years younger” so no older than 59, but also wants a “good breeder” so he can have a son, so actually wants someone quite a bit younger than that…
