BPMN Message Events and Message Flows Explained
In this how-to video, you will learn how to use BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation)–message events and pools in particular–to model a true end-to-end process that crosses multiple boundaries; integrates multiple processes and participants; and includes asynchronous communication. Using the example of fulfilling a customer order in a coffee shop, Senior Developer Advocate Niall Deehan shows how to set up a process canvas, how to use collapsed pools to represent different participants and how they relate to each other, and how to use expanded pools to map the different actions and communications that happen in the end-to-end process. Keep watching to learn: 00:00 - Welcome + Introduction 00:50 - Explaining the process with token simulation 02:44 - How to add related processes, entities, actions, and people, using collapsed pools 06:35 - How to model the actions and responsibilities of different participants, like a customer, using expanded pools 13:03 - How to use an expanded pool to model the actions and responsibilities of the barista 17:57 - The nice thing about signal events 19:14 - Conclusion + Call-to-Action In this example, Niall is using Camunda SaaS Modeler. I'm a big proponent of using the #BPMN standard for designing and exectuing processes. But the standard does have it's detractors, often orchestration tools that have decided not to use the standard in their tooling. To address these detractors I wrote this. camunda.com/blog/2024/06...
BPMN Is Brilliant, Actually
There are good reasons BPMN been so popular for so long. Let's talk about what BPMN can really do and why it's brilliant.

I've spent the last few weeks presenting Camunda 8 (@camunda.bsky.social) stuff to the community in India.
6 events in 4 cities - it's been wonderful. India has some of the most engaged and informed participants I've seen. Making this a great place to share and hear ideas. Thanks 🙏

You can use #DMN to easy model executable business rules? This isn't just a fun fact - It's also the theme of a short video tutorial series I recently created :)
