🟢 Scottish Greens must offer real change for disabled communities 🟢

It’s clear the political status quo is failing and ignoring disabled people... Finlay McIlwraith says it has never been more crucial to have a party who stands up for disabled and neurodivergent communities.

🟢 Ellie Gomersall: Greens must prioritise rights and representation of women and girls 🟢

At last year’s general election, young women were twice as likely to vote Green across the UK than young men were to vote for Reform. @elliebgomersall.bsky.social outlines why we must speak to them.

🟢 Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse: What should be the Green takeaway 🟢

Now that this divisive campaign is over - how should the Scottish Greens move forward?

1. Ann McGuinness and her local, grassroots campaign are an excellent example of what Greens must do next May.

As @sgpwomen.bsky.social co-convener Joanne wrote earlier, stepping aside can be a powerful step forward for equality. For our party leader and a leadership candidate to dismiss this underlines exactly why balancing measures are still needed.

Very disappointed to see two senior men within the Scottish Greens ignore guidance from the party about standing aside to increase diversity.

Particularly to see @ross-greer.bsky.social suggesting this @sgpwomen.bsky.social guidance amounts to vote rigging.

Some excellent socialist women have already put themselves forward, and I look forward to supporting their campaigns to get elected in Glasgow.

More to come when campaigning kicks off in 10 days or so.

As such, I will commit to balancing myself down in line with the suggestion of the party’s Women’s Network (and others) and would call on all others - including incumbent cis men - to do the same.
June 5, 2025 at 7:22 AM
That being said, I also want to be very clear: men need to consider whether others are better placed to represent our party at Holyrood.

The Scottish Greens now unfortunately have no gender balancing in place, so we must think about supporting women and non-binary candidates.

In last year’s General Election I ran in Glasgow South, winning more votes than any Scottish Green candidate ever. I think as part of a strong slate of candidates, I can help us achieve our best ever result in Scotland.

If we are to compete in 2026 and take the fight to the right, we need dedicated socialists - not “professional” politicians aligning Greens with the establishment, for whom scrapping climate change targets and sacrificing the rights of trans people is a matter of convenience.

🟢 No National Park: A betrayal of working-class communities 🟢

🟢 All eyes on 2029: The case for a Green Left alliance in Scotland 🟢

At this stage, the prospect of far-right MSPs and councillors voted in is unavoidable - and we need to start preparing the ground for what we do after that.
