Me with my French-speaking Haitian regulars and many others in all kinds of places..It seems there’s deep comfort even with a simple hello in our native tongue. I remember coming home from studying abroad; I knew I was home-home when I heard english in a thick NY accent..smiled so hard I cried.

Wow. I got mine stolen, cops found it in 2 days. The overall process (insurance, repair, rentals etc.) can be very exploitative. In a month, I overall had to come up with $1500 plus my insurance went up. I can’t imagine how much this could set back those unable to pull extra money out their ass.

Students restore my hope in this issue I sometimes feel doomy about. Thinking I was doing my part but the problem is far more layered and nasty.. that I could recover a billion bags in my life yet a trillion more trump my effort. Policy is important. Consumer dollars are a powerful vote.

Complex. More than one truth about it. I’m not comfy elite I’m an underpaid county worker. Being next to encampments put me in direct line of activities that happen out of desperation. Elite take over the convo but are least affected. The rest of us, housed or not, lack resources/strategy/safety.

I meet fellow Nias and Jasmines a lot. But I still feel one-and-only with my Nia Jasmyn combo and spelling. 😎

I have a friend like this and she is the best. Her goofiness makes everything not only bearable but welcomed.

Angela Davis dives into this in her book “Freedom is a Constant Struggle: Ferguson, Palestine, and the Foundations of a Movement”. Making fun of newcomers really trivializes/disrespects a movement. How are you going to move people, move anything, if you aren’t committed to bridging gaps?
