Additionally, seven new species of frogs have been discovered in Madagascar, and a new species of mosquito was identified in 40-million-year-old amber. Let’s hope 2025 will be just as eventful for the museum's research endeavors!

Other projects focus on detecting early plastic materials in marine environments and monitoring changes in marine mammal species through underwater listening stations in Greenland.

The year has also brought several exciting research projects around the world. Among them is a project designed to assist potato farmers in the Andes Mountains and another aimed at preserving biodiversity in the Udzungwa Mountains of Tanzania.

Students have also assisted researchers at the museum and the University of Copenhagen with real research projects. Their efforts have led to exciting discoveries, including new species – thanks to the students’ work, we have doubled our knowledge of Danish tardigrade fauna.

Det er en god dag på Statens Naturhistoriske Museum🙂: Anders P. Tøttrup er udpeget til ny Vicemuseumschef for Forskning og skal i de kommende år lede den strategiske udvikling af museets forskningsområde.
