also went for a ride on a sydney bus museum leyland opd2. one of the light bulbs is marked ‘NSWTD’ (new south wales tramway department?)

it breaks my heart when i see these sleeper cars. they’re younger than VIA Rail’s transcontinental budd cars! we could still have a proper sydney-melbourne night train!

the line seems to serve intermodal terminals and the port now – chemical plants and oil refineries are gone, and the kellogs factory isn’t served by rail anymore. the only rail-served industry left seems to be the veolia waste transfer terminal (located on what used to be botany yard)

my favourite part of the trip was seeing all the sheep, cows, kangaroos and wallabies in the paddocks by the railway line. it’s pretty green out there at the moment! (WT28 Central West XPT, Dubbo-Sydney)
