I wrote this a year ago. I wrote about Trump’s campaign of raci anxiety when he won the first time as did others. Look to see who is being platformed in this America that many of us predicted, and who has been disappeared. That will reveal a lot about this moment and what power wants us to believe.

Republicans understand that the best way to kill social programs is to paint their beneficiaries as Black, as support for these programs declines — even amongst white people who need them — when they think large numbers of Black people will benefit.

Our problem is identity politics unless Black people refuse to endorse a conservative who doesn’t share their politics just because she is Black.

Can’t stop thinking about this and what it says about a person.

The irony of this was too grand to keep to myself.

Megyn Kelly has now made multiple denigrating posts about me across X, YouTube, her podcast so I’m sharing this. Unlike her, I don't perform dislike and disdain in public, then become my real self when the cameras are off. That's the definition of the grift she accuses me of;I find it profoundly sad.

My friend and colleague Wesley Morris and I had a very sobering conversation about America since the 1619 Project published and how it feels to be falling back under the veil that W.E.B. Du Bois so mournfully wrote about. I hope you’ll listen to this episode of Cannonball @nytimes.com

Re-upping this from November. Some of us have consistently tried to warn about what was to come. Many of us were treated as hysterical.

Another fallacy. It’s much easier to close big gaps than smaller ones. Are we to be shocked that the wealth gap closed by leaps and bounds between the time when Black people held no wealth because they were property and emancipation when they were finally able to keep the fruits of their labor?

I so want to debate this essay, point by point. But let me just point to an easy error. In arguing the worn theory that Black wealth disparity’s due to unmarried mothers, why would the control group be married Black people, not white people of similar circumstance? www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

This is endorsement of open white supremacy by Trump’s former right hand man and the richest man in the world.

A few years ago, I warned that we were entering a Second Nadir. Some deemed that hyperbolic. Most had never heard of the first one. The Nadir was a term coined by historian Rayford Logan to talk about the period when Black Americans lost the rights they had just gained following slavery.

A few years ago, I warned that we were entering a Second Nadir. Just a few months into Trump's second term, we are in it.

I spent the last few months reporting on the in a once-a-century battle for civil rights being waged by the Trump Administration. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/m...

The problem with so many xenophobes is they either are too lazy to do research, or just know their followers won't and so actively ignore it. NYC has always been a city of immigrants -- forced and voluntary. It is *precisely* what made it what was, & makes it what it is. Racism relies on ignorance.

I mean, Rahm Emanuel, who participated in the cover up the Laquan MacDonald police killing, is arguing that kids do not know what a pronoun is — which on its face is ridiculous. Yet, no critique of white nationalism, attacks on rights.History is instructive in this moment, and it does not look good.

I’m curious about how many “centrists” who STILL continue to blame progressives for focusing on fringe identity issues at the expense of so-called kitchen table issues will admit that’s exactly what Trump’s been doing by attacking “DEI” while throwing the economy and government into chaos.

I’ve written about people like you. It’s not even a challenge. If you want to be impervious to facts, do it on your timeline not mine. Because you think inequality will awash exist, Black people should accept it and shut up about it?

Even so, I am struck by this comment that clearly — and at least in part accurately — implies that these bans are about protecting white students while ignoring that the Navy is the least white of the Armed Services and the most racially diverse. These bans are about white nationalism. Just say it.
