For three consecutive days, hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets of northern Gaza to demand both the end of the war and of Hamas’s 18-year-old rule.

“We don’t have anything to lose,” one protester said. “We have already lost our lives, homes, and money.”
Gazans Demand End to 18 Years of Hamas Rule
Most protests have been small, but they represent the boldest challenge to Hamas’s authority by Palestinians since the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel and the ensuing war.

To all those who continue to use WhatsApp in 2024, when Signal (among others) exists, for free, with more-or-less all the same features.

Is it worth it?

Does it pain you to use it? But you have no choice?

I just read in The Economist about Grahame Giddings, who died alone, and it took weeks for anyone to notice. By the time police forced their way into his north London home his body was decomposing on the bedroom floor.

Every year, cargo, cruise, and fishing vessels kill an estimated 20,000 whales.

I own my share of the devastation of 20,000 whales that were killed last year by cargo.

Never cruised, never will.
Not knowingly eaten fish this millennium. #vegan
Save the "massive, living, beautiful, breathing, majestic boxes of carbon" known as whales
Ships, noise, and climate change are killing whales. Here’s how to change that.

Excellent analysis from Bruce Schneier, which gives a reminder of the problems of the harmful incentives of an advertising-supported social media and how they (can easily) transfer to AI.

If you think you don’t use AI, you especially need to read this short article (you do use AI).
Let’s not make the same mistakes with AI that we made with social media
Social media’s unregulated evolution over the past decade holds a lot of lessons that apply directly to AI companies and technologies.

I guess I’m afraid of a fear-mongering channel. It is concerning enough that anyone watches, let alone believes what they see on GB news. “GB news is…at best…factually unreliable show business for uninteresting people. At worst it is right-wing propaganda and conspiracy theories”
