I have a bunch of old recipe cards that were my grandmothers - she was married in the mid late 30s, and the newest ones seem to be from the 70s. Some were from the milkman when he made deliveries. This one is from the bottom of an order form, but some are promotional Betty Crocker recipe cards.
Don't forget to order buttermilk. The best cooks use BUTTERMILK in a wide variety of delightful recipes, and recommend it wherever sour milk can be used. BUTTERMILK SUGAR COOKIES: 2 cups sugar, heaping cup of lard, pinch of salt, 2 eggs, cup of buttermilk with teaspoon of soda beaten up in it, little nutmeg. Flour with 1 teaspoon baking powder sifted in. Enough flour to make dough stiff enough to roll out. Cut with cookie cutter and bake in hot oven.

I have bad handwriting, which I would like to improve, so I looked up handwriting charts. And I found this blast from the past. This is how I was taught to form letters. No wonder I had so much trouble learning handwriting. That doesn't look like a Q, and the W is about impossible to make legible.
The Palmer method alphabet, made up of loopy cursive letters. Text: "Special Studies of the Capitals, Small Letters, and Figures" - then the alphabet in capitals, small letters, and numerals. Then more text: "Pupils who have studied and followed the explanations, suggestions, and instructions so far, will have sufficient control of the muscular movement to master easily the letters on this page. Those who have not been thorough in studying the instructions and practicing the drills should review. Nothing less than failure can follow superficial study. The capitals, small letters, and figures are given at this point for convenient reference, and an effort should be made hereafter to employ these forms in all the written work. One lesson each week should be devoted to special study and practice of the capitals until they are mastered. Capitals, small letters, and figures will all be taught thoroughly in the following lessons. A few minutes in the right way are worth more than hours of practice in the wrong way."
