no-reply email addresses should be outlawed. Communicating with someone in a way that doesn't allow a response is obnoxious behaviour.

(No, I don't want to talk to your chat bot or 'ask the community'.)

What you’re witnessing is a populist assault on the BBC.

This is not an institutional scandal in any meaningful sense of the word. It is an attack on public service broadcasting.

If I were Jewish I'd be concerned about people like @chiefrabbi.bsky.social conflating resistance to the Israeli military with antisemitism.
Antisemitism is the hatred of Jews *for being Jews* - it's very dangerous to define all Jews as being represented by an extreme and violent minority.

Very much enjoying (enjoying...? ok, engaging intellectually with) Everything Must Go by @dorianlynskey.bsky.social - I'd be interested in a list of picture credits for the paperback, if possible?
Apologies if it's there and I've somehow failed to find it.

And this is why we shouldn't tolerate courts ruling on a scientific matter without the extensive input of experts in the field.

All the 'common sense', convention, and received wisdom in the world is worse than useless if it's wrong.

A plank of wood is practically worthless to me, I should get it for free. And the next plank is too. As is the next. I’m just gonna take it, and you shouldn’t object.

Now, pay me for this house I built. Actually, have the government subsidize my house building. And you better praise me for it too.

“There isn’t any law saying that you cannot use a neutral third space, and they should be using their powers of advocacy to ask for those third spaces.”

I swear I've seen those third spaces before.

oh, yeah

Cis people: if you see someone trying to bully trans folks out of single-sex spaces, it’s your moral duty to intervene.

And a reminder that the @supremecourt.uk ruling, while I'm sure legally consistent, is in denial of both scientific fact and social responsibility.

Also, disgraceful from @karinsmythmp.bsky.social.

'We need to move forward. I think the whole country is generally very supportive of individual rights. We’re a very tolerant society.'

I've been defending them from left and right for a while now, but time to finally dump @teamlabouruk.bsky.social

Hodge: 'We counsel against reading this judgment as a triumph of one or more groups in our society at the expense of another. It is not.'

It plainly is though. Stating something in authoritative tones doesn't make it true.

Across the country, orgs will be forced to choose between being a sex-based women's service, having to exclude trans women, and abandoning women-only spaces to ensure inclusion. The latter option, which is the only one I'm prepared to stand by, places women at greater risk. Make it make sense.

I say we should all sign up and help serial owl-fiddler Liz 'The Hoot' Truss in her crusade against censorship.

Finally, a platform which will welcome graphic description of what I really think should be done about Trump, Netanjahu, Orban, etc.

@theipaper.com published this at the weekend, quoting a More in Common poll. But looking at the latest @moreincommonuk.bsky.social poll with the quoted sample size (2058), I can't see that that question was even asked. Am I missing it?

So weird that the same promotor organising Nish Kumar's Berlin show is also responsible for putting on Jordan Peterson. Not Nish's fault I'm sure, but makes me a bit hesitant to book. Am I being prudish?

Listening to the @therestpolitics.bsky.social interview with @chrystia-freeland.bsky.social, a little belatedly. Man, it sounds like an AI version of a prime time interview. I'm just hearing talking points (albeit ones I largely agree with). Nobody's getting elected sounding this insincere.

I hate the “Zelenskiy’s no Angel” narrative. Russia invaded Ukraine. It commits war crimes, it murders & tortures people in the occupied territories. Who GAF if Zelenskiy isn’t perfect? It’s not his side wreaking terror on innocent people. www.thetimes.com/article/a3f1...

Great interview with Yulia Navalnaya by @therestpolitics.bsky.social, but is the point about politics in some countries being qualitatively different than in others a little optimistic? Isn't the US showing that the gap between democracy and authoritarianism isn't as clear-cut as we'd like to think?
