@blessingjr.bsky.social exactly nailed what the 3D NGs are. The separate parts arent that great, but if you embrace what it is and really try and understand the combat, its really fun. Definitely not for everyone though. Sounds like itll hit for existing fans but unlikely to bring in new ones.

Metroidvania's are my favorite genre and I did buy PoP at full price but I skipped Tales. There are so many amazing Metroidvania's being put out by indie devs that its hard to play them all. PoP probably would have passed me by too if it didnt get so many rave reviews and GotY talk.
