I’d sooner recommend Dark, Salt, Clear by Lamorna Ash.
It’s in the same sort of genre - a personal travelogue - but it’s mainly a portrait of the Newlyn fishing community in Cornwall. It’s poetic, feels well observed, and explores the complicated personal + social context in a really evocative way.
