i really dislike the bluesky heuristic of “i’ll stop notifying you of replies downthread if you haven’t participated in the last five of them”. i lost track of many interesting conversations (between mutuals!) this way. really disheartening and one reason twitter felt better for conversations

Let's talk about why batched transitions are usually better.

Here is a cart where changing the quantity updates the total. The item subtotal and cart total update async. Take a second to think of what should happen if you increase the quantity:

github post: This adds endpoints to implement bookmarks. ATproto currently only supports public data. On the other hand, we've designed bookmarks as a private feature, in which only the user can see their own bookmarks. We might expand the feature to allow for making some bookmarks public (e.g., create collections and define visibility), but that's outside the initial scope. We have the intention to extend the protocol to add support for private data, but it is a complex topic, and we haven't yet built support for it. So for this feature, we rely on private storage. We have modeled our private storage on lexicon definitions to facilitate a future migration to on-protocol, once we have that capability.

One takeaway from this is that even though the AI hype is definitely a bubble, that bubble will likely continue to grow for at least two years - until this new class of datacenters comes online and trains their first models.

Reminiscing about the first time I went from serving files through an Apache server to using PHP and Ruby with a router. URLs don't have to be file paths! I can dynamically use parts of the URL to change what the request does!

It felt like a superpower. I was giddy. Still am.

semaukwelikenya A group of human rights defenders held a press conference outside Pangani Police Station this morning to denounce the arrest of activist Boniface Mwangi on trumped-up charges. Boniface was picked up by DCI officers from his home yesterday and is expected to appear in court on Monday to answer to charges of incitement, robbery, arson, money laundering, among others. His wife, Njeri Mwangi, was also present and said Bonnie was in high spirits and had told her he was being treated well at the station. She added that the family had been allowed unfettered access to him. Lawyers for the family raised alarm over the illegal search and seizure of various items from Boniface's home, stating that the search warrant produced by the police when searching his office did not include his home. In their statement, the human rights defenders also raised issue with the search warrant stating, "Efforts to verify the validity of the search warrant through the judiciary's own case tracking system have so far proven that no such order legally existed and no magistrate was involved in issuing it." They went on to issue a list of 5 demands that included calling on the office of the director of public prosecutions to cease politicized prosecutions; calling on the Judicial Service Commission to defend judicial independence; ending the criminalization of human rights defenders; protection of rights, not power; and ensuring transparency and accountability. Earlier in the morning, Boniface was driven to DCI headquarters to record a statement before being brought back to the station. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday. #SemaUkweli #FreeBonifaceMwangi
