Minister of Works David Umahi has said that the South-East zone must exercise patience in its quest for Nigeria’s presidency, declaring that it is not yet its turn to produce the country’s next leader. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting approval for the appointment of Dr. Musa Babayo as Chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA). The president urged the upper chamber to consider and confirm Babayo’s nomination in accordance with the provisions of the law establishing the agency.

The federal government has approved the extension of the ongoing Keffi–Nasarawa–Toto Road project to Abaji. With this development, the total length of the corridor has increased from 180 kilometres to 199 kilometres. The Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, disclosed this during an inspection of federal road projects in Nasarawa State on Saturday. He stated that President Bola Tinubu approved the extension as part of efforts to strengthen inter-state connectivity and ease movement between the North-Central and Federal Capital Territories.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 17 drug trafficking suspects across Kano, Lagos, Edo, Osun, Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna States during a series of coordinated operations between October 1 and October 11, 2025. In total, the operatives recovered thousands of pills, injections, and consignments of cocaine, skunk, tramadol, and methamphetamine, alongside €945 (Nine Hundred and Forty-Five Euros) paid to one of the couriers for trafficking the substances to Europe.

The Administrator of the Estate of the late Mrs. Esther Ibeto has dragged popular Jigida singer, Uche Ibeto, before the Lagos State High Court over claims of unlawful possession of the deceased’s property and valuables. A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday ordered the arrest of former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for contempt of court — barely hours after he vacated office. The order, issued by Justice Funmilola Demi-Ajayi, directed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to apprehend the former electoral chief and initiate committal proceedings within seven days.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on Nigeria’s service chiefs to intensify their crackdown against terrorists and bandits, and urged them to be “more ruthless” in protecting the lives of innocent citizens across the country. A former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria and founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Osita Okechukwu, claims that the speculated decamping of Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State from the Peoples Democratic Party would mark the end of PDP in the South-East Region of Nigeria. A human rights lawyer, Barrister Christopher Chidera, has said that the persistent Monday sit-at-home order in the South-East region is the result of bad governance and not the making of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Sunday announced the arrest of four suspects involved in a one-chance robbery and attempted kidnapping operation. The police rescued two victims in the process, recovered international passports, arms, and four mobile phones amongst others during the operation. The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said one Hajara Ali had reported to the Life Camp Police Station that her sister, Comfort Habila, had called in distress, stating she had been abducted by suspected criminals who demanded a N1m ransom for her release.

Senator Kelvin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). His defection was announced on Tuesday during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The declaration was greeted with applause from several APC lawmakers. Explaining his decision, Chukwu cited the collapse of internal democracy and the “tattered state” of the Labour Party as his reasons for leaving.

A social media storm has erupted across Nigeria as citizens call for the dismissal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The campaign, trending under the hashtag #WikeMustGo, gained momentum shortly after the resignation of Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has hinted that two more state governors are set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ahmad made the revelation in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday night. According to him, Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, and another governor from the North West region will join the ruling party “in a matter of days.”

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called for the power to appoint the chairman, commissioners, and secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be moved from the presidency to an independent panel. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Tinubu of running an administration “rooted in forgery, deceit and moral bankruptcy”. In a statement on Wednesday, Atiku said the resignation of former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has exposed the “deep moral crisis” within the Tinubu administration. He described Nnaji’s resignation as an attempt to “whitewash a national disgrace”, arguing that the former minister should have been dismissed and prosecuted for falsification instead of being allowed to “quietly exit through the back door”.

Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has stated that his resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s government is not an admission of guilt/ Nnaji has been embroiled in a scandal regarding his academic qualifications before he resigned on Monday. In a statement after his resignation, he said his decision followed “deep reflection and consultations” with family, associates, and other well-meaning Nigerians.

The Police Force has provided an update on the armed robbery incident that occurred on 29th September, 2025, at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Mabushi, Abuja, and the significant progress recorded in the ongoing investigation. While giving update, the Force PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin said, “You will recall that in the early hours of 29th September, 2025, just twelve days ago, an armed robbery attack was reported at the said location.

Nigerians have reacted to the presidential pardon granted to Maryam Sanda, who killed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, in their Abuja residence on November 19, 2017. Maryam was among 175 convicts pardoned by President Bola Tinubu last week. Maryam, who was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging in 2020 by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, had spent six years and eight months at Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre.
