"Logging slash burns are occurring on private land above Hagg Lake today," Forest Grove Fire & Rescue said Tuesday morning. "You may see or smell smoke, but these are legally approved controlled burns, there is no need to call to report them,"

For two days this week, part of Gales Creek's downtown was transformed into Indiana, and the Gales Creek Community Church of God converted to Catholicism. That is, for a film being shot in the area.

A grim note foreshadowed the Tillamook Burn, which began west of Forest Grove 92 years ago today.
On Monday, August 7, 1933, a group went up to Lee Falls, then (and now) a popular but hard-to-reach swimming hole near the Cherry Grove community.

Firework sales began on Monday, sparking a two week period when licensed merchants can legally sell low-grade explosives to those ages 16 and older. News in the Grove visited every open licensed Forest Grove firework retailer for a brief guide to FG fireworks.

One person is dead following a residential fire, Forest Grove Fire & Rescue said in a message to News in the Grove. The fire was near the corner of A Street and 26th Ave, according to the PulsePoint app.
