Unfortunately Ukraine's experience suggests giving up nuclear weapons, joining the NPT and relying on security guarantees from other countries is not a good move.

If this is the best that Labour has got then we are in trouble. I am not sure Andy grabbing the microphone to talk about his leadership ambitions is really going to help in combatting Reform.

He was Chief Secretary during the Northern Rock crisis.
He was a Blairite but now to the left of Starmer.
The Greater Manchester Police entered special measures in 2020.

Like Johnson, he has used the Telegraph to further his political ambitions.

Andy Burnham is Labour's Boris Johnson.
September 25, 2025 at 8:08 AM
Exactly.

Labour need Reform to be the main threat at the next election. If the Conservatives become a credible political party again, Labour will be toast. They need to be able to provide voters with a clear choice, Labour or Reform. It is the only route to a second term.

As a fellow Catholic, I despair that more of the leaders in the Church don't reflect on the temptation of Christ and in particular His refusal of the offer of worldly glory and authority. I fear the Cardinal enjoys the glory and authority a little too much.
September 21, 2025 at 11:55 AM
There needs to be radical reform of the BBC, particularly its News and Current Affairs areas. They have some high quality journalists but unfortunately they don't seem to be the ones that get the top jobs on screen.

Why is Andy Burnham popular?
He was Chief Secretary during the Northern Rock crisis.
He was a Blairite but now to the left of Starmer.
The Greater Manchester Police entered special measures in 2020.
He stood twice for the Labour leadership and lost.
He seems to regard those from London as suspect.
