Like, getting band and album recommendations from people to try out new things is one of the consistently joyful things you can do. Outsourcing that part of your humanity to the plagiarism machine just seems sad

I’ve always thought this! “His leather jacket had chains that would jingle” sticks in my craw as a line that only exists to serve the rhyme. I like Petty generally but the most charitable possible read is he had to write this song very quickly

In theory I can appreciate that describing things in a non traditional way can encourage users to create something they otherwise wouldn’t, but at a certain point it’s like, what does this do. The only thing almost as esoteric is the first paragraph of the Mannequins Just friends description

(1) Mule variations is my favorite post-Rain Dogs Waits; pre-Rain Dogs I’ll take Small Change.

(2) the great thing about you not sharing the Letterman clip is I watched three interviews before I found the “right” one and they were all great

I feel like circa their comeback/reunion albums the answer to this was Steely Dan but the pendulum has swung so deeply in the other direction that it’s tough to imagine them being perceived as uncool
