Cake-baker, tea-drinker, dog-walker. Observer of the watchable, remarker of the remarkable. Yellowbelly by origin and now a miller’s moll in the Netherlands.
Mablethorpe beach looking south on Christmas Eve afternoon. Wind is straight off the North Sea, so bitterly cold.

Sitting in my home office this morning looking out onto the street and waiting for inspiration, I've seen 3 cement trucks already this morning, and remembered this (which my Pa used to sing- I thought he'd made up a song but no, it really exists) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKdr...

I’d rather eat mashed potatoes than pasta. Every time.

Breakfast is half a pint of tea and two toasted teacakes with butter. I made them myself on Sunday. #smugbaker
I ate them at my desk though.

Feral churches holding green communion growl at careless trespass. Their wild mysteries are not easily untangled. They scratch the soul, infect with untamed spirit. They place the language of vegetation upon the tongue and you find yourself offering thorned hymns. – #DAKilroy

Found some macramé string in a bargain bin. Bought it on a whim. Haven’t done macramé since I was 10. Lets seen what a mess I can make…

Whoever thought 'edge to edge' cardigans for women were a good idea can do one. You never see buttonless cardigans for men, do you?
I'm shopping for a cardigan that buttons up so it can do the same thermoregulating job at the front as it does at the back and the sides. Not a huge ask, is it?

My poor old editor brain is bolting away this afternoon.
Compare and contrast:
1. Pumpkin spice is for spicing pumpkins
2. Cod liver oil is for oiling cod livers.

A grey gloomy day. We’ve put the heating on for the first time. Shall we have winter now and get it over with?

Ever since the pensions planning meeting last week, my email has been spammed with messages saying I've sign up to all kinds of investment newsletters. No I bloody haven't. The only way you got my email was because #BlackTowerFM let you have it. Not cool, Black Tower. Not cool at all.

People with surnames beginning with W are discriminated against because they always come last in lists.
Discuss.
I bring this up now because it's to do with trying to join a thing that's a perk from my employer and being overlooked twice. I'm taking the issue to HR now.

"Pay no attention"
Perfect.
I love the way the paracetamol bombshell has been utterly deflated by proper scientists.

Going through old photos. These were my absolute favourite trousers in 1986-1988. I wore them until they had holes and even then I fixed the holes and carried on wearing them. My mum and my sis look good too. 📸

Young men more likely to vote Green than Reform. Young men second most progressive group of any demographic. Combined right-wing vote barely bigger than Green vote alone for young men

I’ve been listening to too many radio adaptations of 1930s literature. Tonight’s dinner is shepherd’s pie, cauliflower cheese and rice pudding.

Sleepless in #Louth? You’ll probably hear both of these chiming the quarters and hours through the night. (I was and I did, but it sounds so lovely and I’ve missed it ever since I moved away more than a quarter of a century ago.)

At a church book sale this afternoon I bought a book of farmhouse recipes, mostly because of this scribbled note inside the back cover - a remedy for varicose veins.
“Take 20 conkers
Cover with vodka”
Also a lice remedy (not clear if for personal use or household).
Anyway, it was 50p. Bargain.

After a few days off work bring at home catching up on chores before we drive into France next week, my brain is now untethered from the reality of work. This is today’s earworm. I’m really dragging them out from the depths, aren’t I? (Grandad used to sing it) m.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZzR...
