We synthesise and characterise low-dimensional #organic and #metal-organic #nanostructures with tailored electronic properties at New Horizons, #MonashUni, Melbourne, Australia

Bias-dependent #STM images capturing a structural phase transition of a molecular system on Cu(111) - flipping from close-packed to a #kagome lattice in real time. Still one of the strangest datasets we’ve ever recorded, and very much an unsolved mystery in the lab.

Distinguishing between magnetic states at the atomic-scale 🧪⚛️

Now in @jacs.acspublications.org, we show that SPM with NiCp2 molecules can discriminate between nearly degenerate magnetic ground states 🧲🔬🧑‍💻

This 2D #MOF was a pleasure to study! Distinct #chiral phases emerged as a result of tilted molecules, giving us a great excuse to perform #nc-AFM 😏. Each chiral phase uniquely confined the Ag(111) surface state resulting in changes to the 2DEG band structure driven purely by structural symmetry.
Tuning Interface Electronic Properties via Chiral Two‐Dimensional Metal‐Organic Frameworks
Structural symmetries are crucial for dictating the electronic properties of materials. Numerical methods with low-temperature scanning probe microscopy techniques are combined to quantitatively addr....
