Our commitment to racial justice does not begin or end during Black History Month. We will always fight to make freedom possible and support individuals and families impacted by incarceration. Now, more than ever, we must be clear about who we are and what we are fighting for.

We will not stop fighting for people & communities. We will keep working to bring people home. And for those who are finally free, we will celebrate with them because joy itself is an act of resistance by those who are victims of the criminal legal system.

Through each overturned conviction, our work proves that the criminal legal system is built on a collection of lies. We are an independent organization focused on freedom, supporting abolition of the system that has harmed our clients, our families, and our communities.

Our mission to free innocent people is not a statement about who is more deserving of freedom. It is a direct attack on the legitimacy of the criminal legal system, which justifies itself by equating a finding of guilt with danger. We embrace the people our system told us to fear.

What does it mean to be wrongfully convicted? It can mean many things, from the narrowest definition - an innocent person being convicted of a crime they did not commit - to the broadest - being convicted by an illegitimate, racist, arbitrary system that harms, not heals.

We've finally migrated here from the BAD place, and so it's our chance to reintroduce ourselves: We are a diverse, passionate team who cares about FREEDOM. We know prisons do not create public safety. We follow the data, and we want resources in communities, not in the criminal legal system.
