October Update We’ve booked our passage through Harecastle Tunnel for the end of the month — it’ll be interesting to see just how spooky it feels at this time of year! Trent & Mersey Canal We’ve been enjoying some more lovely walks through the beautiful Staffordshire countryside, taking in the changing colours of autumn along the towpath. Before we left, we paid another visit to our favourite Italian restaurant in Stone — it really is excellent and will be missed!

This Week on Never Two Late – Our Journey We’re enjoying a peaceful couple of weeks in beautiful Barlaston, taking in the village, local walks, and a few favourite spots before heading towards the Harecastle Tunnel. Next stop — a few relaxing days at Westport Lake before we make the big trip north!

Guess what? Summer is almost over, and we’ve had a bit of a rough time cruising this year. We were delayed because we had to wait to get the boat blacked. You know, you can’t have Tupac put on in the cold weather, right? Well, it turned out to be a waste of time because the place we took it to said they wouldn’t do it because it hadn’t been prepped properly in the first place.

Troubled Waters on the Canals It’s been a tricky week for those of us cruising the waterways. Closures seem to be popping up all around due to low water levels and breaches, and our planned route has had to change more than once. We were heading into the Caldon, but that’s now closed. So, the plan shifted — we thought we’d head straight up onto the Macclesfield.

Hi, it’s the time of year again when our hedgerows give us tasty treats. Even with the weather being so dry this year, there is an abundance of blackberries, so why not get out into the countryside and cook up a tasty cake? This recipe is my go-to, and it’s so simple to do, but you will be impressed at how tasty it is.
