But also I think people generally like to put AI upscaling into a different moral bucket than just straight-up image generation, much like they like to assume that AI machine translation is completely different than what ChatGPT etc. are doing.

Although note that while earlier versions of frame generation had to be trained on the game in question (and thus WAS just plagiarizing itself), modern DLSS/FSR is more generalized and plagiarizes a bunch of OTHER games to guesstimate frames in the current one.
Probably with permission, but, well.

The DB wiki has 1799 character pages and I imagine that doesn't include all the super minor background characters, yeah.
Meanwhile a football game will obviously want every player from every team, no matter how minor.

There's those big club-bugs in the forgotten crossroads... but they're kind of easy to not get hit by. The jellyfish are trickier, but nonhostile. etc.

The only current one that I've been able to find online is Fifth Third Bank. I expect that there's more, though, and that any details on the "restrictions" are within the contracts they signed with Stripe. (It's probably similar to what Visa & MasterCard have?)

This is why I'm a big fan of open-world RPGs just having the main quest give you permission to go muck about with side content.
In Morrowind, if you ask Caius Cosades for the next quest he'll just give you 200 gold and tell you to come back once you're level 3!

Capcom has some weird dead franchises if you really dig into it. Darkstalkers still makes its way into compilations, but what about Everblue? Maximo?
Hell, despite getting a manga and 51-episode anime Gaist Crusher (the final Treasure game!) never made its way out of Japan.

If you want triplets, make sure to include this in the deck:

Since you guys bring up the (...Whatever.) in the fire cavern, here's a fun article by Clyde Mandelin on the various things that were translated to a "...Whatever". Turns out it's a lot of different things!
They're arranged in order, but mind spoilers ofc.

Squall's catchphrase appears much more often in English than in Japanese.

Remember, Breath of the Wild had big framerate dips in some areas (hello, Kokiri Forest) and that was a *launch game*.
We'll have to wait and see, I guess, but yeah some devs will definitely see increased specs and go "wow, I no longer need to optimize as much!"

Personally I'm leaning towards the Hague.

Seriously, just *look* at that list of games where they were support staff. The Switch would still have been fine without them, probably, but they were a major factor in making Breath of the Wild the juggernaut it became.
Now, to be fair, Nintendo acquiring Monolith Soft was 2007, before Xenoblade.

To be "fair", for a lot of them that's because, predating the colonial age, they largely got all their genocide done a thousand years ago and these days there's not a lot of indigenous populations left to oppress.

It's not mine, but Daniel Benmergui's Dragonsweeper is an excellent time-waster.

tbh it doesn't help that the first normal raid you unlock is probably Coils.
which *still* doesn't have a real "normal mode"

I don't remember, was she outright killed or was she turned into one of the alien creatures in imposter Iosefka's horrific human experiments?

The historicity of Jesus is generally accepted by modern scholars, especially given sources like Josephus and Tacitus; although note that this just means that there existed a Jewish man named Jesus (a.k.a. Christ) who got baptized by John, crucified by Pilate, and worshipped after his death.

The Mario vs. Donkey Kong games never hit that high, huh?
February 2, 2025 at 12:35 PM
The threat is that they'll deliberately underclock the Switch 2 to match Switch 1 specs to "accurately emulate the original game" or whatever.
"Kokiri Forest running like dog water is essential to the experience."
Unlikely, but definitely >0% odds given Nintendo.

As I understand it, "if you're not playing RAW you're not playing AD&D" was TSR being really scared that the Dungeons & Dragons trademark would be genericized.
It's not just "you playing AD&D with houserules isn't AD&D", it's also "you playing Tunnels & Trolls isn't AD&D".

Apparently Elves also had a less robust "language of the hands", Mátengwië, although the description I read makes it sound less like an actual sign language and more like... I dunno, Italian gesticulation.
Which is interesting, because I don't think any adaptation has Elves move their hands much?

I think you can get some inkling of an idea from the EU AI Act, since that's the current big notable international convention being worked on.
Currently it looks like the big things scaring EU lawmakers is mostly just hypothetical social credit systems, subliminal messaging, and surveillance.

He'd be *instantly* twisted into a Gollum-esque figure, and the twist would be that it was just an ordinary non-magical ring (probably plastic).

The XBox, a.k.a. "Project Midway", with DirectX being codenamed the "Manhattan Project" with a radiation symbol as its logo before Microsoft asked the team to change it...

Yeah, there might have been a *little* hate directed at Japan from them.

XIV is pretty consistent in its inconsistency: you've got unvoiced non-cutscene dialogue, unvoiced less-important cutscenes, and voiced more-important cutscenes. The density of the last category *increases* towards the climax, rather than the problem Pat's describing.
