My first ride, which never legally belonged to me -- it was a hand-me-down from Bonus Dad. We fixed it up and I rode daily for about a year, until I went to Germany as an exchange student, and then another eight or nine months after I got back, but before I joined the Navy. It was a great learning bike, and I am sorry its modern successor is not available in the USA. As I've written before, I walked in thinking I would get a UJM, a slightly more powerful version of the Honda I was used to. But the salesman lived up to his title, and I rode out on this speed machine. After my late wife finished her Ph.D., we moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, and the guy next door to our new home had one of these just leaning against the meadow fence. It had run when parked, but that was ten years before. Every time I rode past it, I turned my head to look at it, and finally, my late wife went over to talk to the guy and bought it, giving it to me for my birthday. I then spent two years and more money than I care to admit restoring it. The last motorcycle we bought. Our sport bikes were getting pretty old, and more difficult to find parts for, so we went bike shopping. The only thing at the HD dealership which spoke to us was one of these, a Fat Bob, but it spoke to both of us, so we bought it. It turned out to be a lemon, always needing something, and when she got too ill to work and we ended up selling all five of the bikes, this is the only one I was happy to be rid of. But when it worked, it was a smooth ride!

(for those just joining, my late wife talked her parents into buying her a Ducati 888 because she chose to go to a State school instead of one of the Ivy League colleges she'd been admitted to; I rode a Suzuki GSX-R750, which I used my big boot camp paycheck to provide the down payment for).
A Ducati red 888, the factory model of which has won the World Superbike Championships a year or two before she got hers. This is not her bike, but looks very much as I remember it. An early model Suzuki GSX-R750 in blue and white. I walked in to a Suzuki dealership, and the guy could smell the fresh coat of haze gray paint on me. I rode out a couple of days later, not on the particular bike photographed here, but one very much like it. I used my big boot camp paycheck for the down payment, and paid it off before I got out of the Navy.

Watching "Star Crash," a horribad 1978 SciFi pulp movie staring David "Don't Hassle the Hof" and Caroline Munro, who spends the film in a costume absolutely not designed to titillate the male gaze.

In celebration of getting the new episode set up, I decided on a minor splurge, a BLT at the town's one sandwich shop.

Sitting here, looking across the old airfield at distant mountains, I was hit by a powerful wave of loneliness and nostalgia.

I'm tired and I want to go home.

Talking with an old friend about bad, or just bad-for-me movies led to discussing Misty Mundae, who did a number of softcore spoof movies with titles like "Spiderbabe" and "Lord of the G-strings."

I always thought she was hot, but she never made it far acting with her clothes on.
Misty Mundae, AKA Erin Brown. She tried to leave softcore behind, but never really got cast for anything but scream queen roles, which I think is a shame.

My late wife, Sara, spent a lot of time studying with her iPad. I think it was her favorite birthday present ever.

Oh, and yeah... the hairy knees are mine.
