if i get to be a professor, i want to be the kind that meets students where they're at and helps them get to where they want to go. i don't want to use grades as a means of intimidation. students don't learn best when they're scared of grading.

i appreciated that he could say that if students were failing, it was not their fault - they needed better instruction.

p. chem is not known for being an easy class, but he taught so well several of my phd classes were easier because of taking his class.

i once had a prof who told us that his class should not be the most important thing in our lives. he taught physical chemistry and only graded because he was required to.

he once made an exam that a lot of people didn't do well on, he apologized to us and decided to reteach the material.

i used to watch his shows on PBS, PBS is a big part of how i ended up becoming a scientist!

i once had a professor comment that if you really knew your material, you could present it to anyone from any education background in a way they'd understand, from 1st graders to your phd peers

i have multiple family members that i do not know their direct official relation to me that are all "aunt -". there are a ton of people my parents' age that i have referred to as "aunt-" or "uncle-" even though they aren't related at all to me

also my hot take is this: i don't care how profitable SNAP is to the economy. SNAP could be the most unprofitable gov't service and i'd still say we should fund it because i think it's wrong that anyone should go hungry.

if i could go back in time to tell myself something, it would be to advocate for myself sooner. like Matthew, i anchored, and i did so for a lot of same reasons. don't make my mistake, too.

when i say "instantly cured", i mean: i had brain surgery, and i had a migraine when i was going under and then i woke up without one and haven't had a single migraine since.

the fact that we've underpinned a significant chunk of the economy on something that burns hundreds of billions of dollars & the environment for what is, at best, a very mid product, is extremely worrying and frankly baffling to me

most people in the town my great-grandparents went to had their names fully anglicized to "Hill" (from Mäki). i genuinely don't know other great grandparents' original names because they were anglicized to "Cook" (from something Ukrainian)
