MiSTer 68000 core IIRC handles wait states correctly, so within like 1%, DDP should be correct. I'll also say with confidence that the earlier (better designed) Cave games don't have problems with slowdown emulation in MAME, and are 100% playable even without it (unlike non-Yagawa SH3-era games)

Nowadays there are many consumer level eye tracking devices and some shmup players have uploaded clears using them, very useful as a visual aid if you want to figure out how the top level players handle things.

Wasn't Psyvariar Medium Unit and Revision done entirely inhouse? The only Psyvariar game I remember definitely being outsourced was 2 to Skonec.

Holdless TI is mainly something you can do in Shirase, since Shirase doesn't demand much out of you besides execution at speed and the randomizer is very fair in dealing out pieces

Cool, would probably be a double feature with Hello World Project as well since his pre-Galaxy Frontier output also fits those qualifications and is on the whole pretty obscure

daisuke koizumi deserves a whole thread of his own btw, all of the alphasecretbase stuff he did before galaxy frontier and the collaboration with hello world project is really interesting and also falls into the rare category of doujin games which are actually foss games as well

(as for why dfkbl is the cutoff, I basically infer it based on daisuke koizumi being the lead programmer for akai katana and saidaioujou, and the ports for those games along with the ps/mmp doublepack (ygw orig) using cave's second porting library which is totally unrelated code-wise to the first)

(if you have a PS4/5 or Switch 1/2 and have a comfortable control setup, the Arcade Archives rereleases of TGM1 and 2 are excellent, on par with or better than any MAME, and are 100% Arika-legal, in general, if this is an option you can take, you should)

Almost none of this is good advice. For TGM1, vanilla MAME is best nowadays, for TGM2(+), shmupmametgm is the best, TGM3 (using loaders) is damn near unplayable and even things like altinput are sketchy. Relatedly, if you want to play a new-style TGM on PC, TGM4 is objectively the best option.

16) battle bakraid is the best game yagawa ever made and the prerenders are actually super nice looking, better than anything cave put out for a long time (I don't think cave had a really good looking game based on prerenders until espgaluda ii)
