Quality vs. Quantity excerpt with Neku and Shiki in their Halloween outfits: As Neku summoned sparks in the air, Mr. Mew rushed past them, avoiding each area Neku tried to strike as if he saw them ahead of time. Was he making his moves too obvious? And to who—the doll or the witch? Mr. Mew pushed himself up with a kick, and Neku stepped back to meet it with a slash. It went right over the doll’s head, and less than a second later, his tail wrapped around Neku’s arm. The butler dropped to his knees, forced to use his other arm to block the next two kicks that came. “You asked for it—time to turn you into pork chops!” Neku yanked his arm free, then spun around with another psychic slice. This one knocked the plush back with such force that he crashed on his back. Guess cats didn’t always land on their feet. Though, considering this one was half-pig… valid.

Shiki slipped into the seat next to him, finding it surprisingly easy to just be her full, unapologetic self around him. “You never know—I could be a secret sewing agent out to get the latest teenage fashion,” she joked as she placed the bento box in front of her. “Then why are you hanging out with me? I don’t give a damn about fashion.” “Yeah, I kinda gathered that when I saw your Jupiter outfit the other day.”

But it was pretty direct… and with the gloves off, direct was all he had left now. “You’re coming with me.” “Princess!” Speaking of rust buckets, a particularly vocal one stood on another tower across the way, watching the scene unfold. So much for an easy mission—but that knight was still a good distance away. As long as Neku was faster than him… Shiki didn’t say anything, but climbed up onto the thick stone railing. Then, standing tall above Neku with her hands behind her back, she turned to him. A grin peeked through the elegantly flapping fabric as she tilted backwards.
