Perhaps not exactly related, but in atomic layer deposition S(TMS)2 has been used with some metal chlorides to grow the metal sulfide with TMSCl as the byproduct. That could indicate that the Si-Cl bond is a bit more favorable than the Si-S.

If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow.
