How much is removal of the north loop being studied?

Still needs way more

London needs more of this, particularly centrally. Of the few times I’m in the west end I’m struck by how many people are walking in the road as there is no space on the sidewalks and they get pushed to the sides as a single car goes down the road

I’m a bigger fan of this location than EV. It would help tie in CC better. Also could act as a catalyst for regional transit. Would love to see KC link in some of the suburbs via small regional trains using existing rail to union station even just for game days to start.

Definitely prefer fixed route. I wish they would identify future transit corridors and work on removing parking mandates, easing setbacks and encouraging denser development so that we can build out parts of the city built out for transit. Would love to see this happen on North Oak and Ind. Ave.

Interesting, so it’s more about the cost of building and other extenuating factors. Any way you can see to leverage more social housing through bringing prices of new builds down?

Always* intentional but rather people being uncomfortable with trying something new

Makes sense, I’m sure that was frustrating. Just wanted to raise that I think it’s not alway

Have a meet up which says we are going to go around all of the places around river market and buy local. Or we are going to take bikes to consentinos and get groceries. Also tell people where to get bikes or those two wheel trolleys.

I get the frustration, but I think loads of residents need to be shown how easy it is. It’s one thing to conceptually know that it’s close to walk or bike and another to trial it which may seem somewhat daunting.

This isn’t to say it’s right, i think there could be education campaigns.

There’s a fundamental disconnect between people pledging financing for projects (notwithstanding if they are repayable or not) and the amount of projects ready for deployment.

Many places desperately need project preparation finance so that they can get to deployment level.

TIL people live in cities

I’m unapologetic for more building where it’s needed regardless if it’s private or public, as long as it’s dense. Any development needs to stand up to codes and wash its back on infrastructure costs but shouldn’t be subservient to the ‘vibes’ nimbys use to cancel them.
November 19, 2024 at 7:35 PM
This needs to move forward, the destruction KC Life has done in Valentine is the perfect example. But from an even wider perspective North Loop and East Village shouldn’t be dominated by parking lots that are hardly ever used.
November 19, 2024 at 7:32 PM
It’s great that there is more financing available, but without the access to project preparation is ultimately meaningless for many localities.

Would it be feasible to pedestrianize main, and cede a portion of the street to businesses where cafes or food trucks can set up ala covid times.

Mayor Q recently talked about a vacant land tax. How likely do you see that happening? Are there any other legislative mechanisms that could help drive people to use land particularly in the urban core effectively?

Inflation was a difficult head wind to overcome, despite losing I think Harris did much better than others would’ve and kept the democrats from a complete collapse down ballot.
