A few have noticed I have not posted many books recently. I am doing “boring” reading recently in that I am going to Salem soon, so reading about the witch trials and reading about reflective pastoral supervision. This is my recent morning devotional reading if interested.

We are headed to Salem in August and I remembered you read books about the trials. Was there one you recommended?

For my 25th anniversary, I wrote thank you notes to the three congregations I previously served (I left out RIT as those students are long gone 😂). Without the congregations I served, I would never be the pastor I am.

Quick thoughts on the ELCA PB first ballot. 1. At least there are two POC in the Top 5. 2. All Top 5 are Synod staff. 3. If one calls the same people who are currently in charge and expect different results, that is on us.

25 years ago, I said “sure” to being a minister of word and sacrament in the ELCA. It has been a wild ride and I am grateful for all the people I’ve had the opportunity of meeting and serving.

Today my congregation got me a cake and a card in honor of my 25th year of ministry. It is hard to believe 25 years have passed. More on Tuesday.

This is real. This is what has been unleashed. The question is- can the toothpaste go back into the tube now that we know what the real feelings are?

I finished this one tonight. SA Crosby has hit with every book. This one is twisty, turning, and pretty violent. This was great with a few unneeded story branches. Doesn’t make it bad and it is good. Great summer read too, but again it is violent.

I’m usually a Paris Review guy, but this issue seemed pretty great. The authors who wrote short stories for this issue- Sigid Nunez, Rachel Cusk, Bryan Washington, and Katie Kitamura to name a few.

What does one read when it is Pride and Juneteenth? Harriet Tubman the Musical by Bob the Drag Queen, of course. I am also finishing this great book about Black preaching that isn’t preaching.
