Saw the Grateful Dead in 1990. Never has a reputation ever been so undeserved. I was a big fan at the time but they made every song (their own and covers) sound like a slow reggae song. Awful.

Bought this t-shirt at an ICA, London gig in 2005, so I can vouch for the quality of Haines-related merchandise.
No word of a lie, the manufacturer's label (long since faded) said it was made by "Hanes". At the time I thought you had a side-business in t-shirts using a thinly disguised alias

Don't think it was ever a beacon of hope. From the very beginning its democracy was only for white men with property. Then there was slavery, manifest destiny (theft of land, ethnic cleansing), overthrowing elected governments, wars, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Tom Cruise...
