PNW. Weird music, weird movies, weird books, weird people. But fun weird.
Legendary Pink Dots have always been such a great live band in the 30 years I’ve been catching their shows. Tonight was another really powerful set. Orbit Service opened and also did a fantastic set. Such amazing music!

Closed out my 55th year with a half-marathon, my second organized one ever. I’m slow as hell, but I finished, despite just not doing a lot of training this year. Pretty happy with that.

The Man in Black doesn’t pay at the pump.

Hmmm, I’m pretty sure that’s a word, though it might be a proper noun…one of those pseudofood things sold by an influencer or something.

Between miles 3 and 4 of my run today at the track, a little girl about 6 or 7 ran up to me, said “Here you go!” and handed me this rock. I thanked her and when I read it, I just about burst into tears. It was a super kind thing to do, and I carried it in my hand for the rest of the run. #running

Got the Drumbrute Impact integrated with the setup. The MX-1 had to get reconfigured and wow is Roland’s documentation on MX-1 both accurate and incredibly obtuse. Threw a short pattern together in Massive X to make sure it all worked together. It’s kind of a hoot to play with.

I didn’t run til age 54. Been at it just over a year. I’m slow as hell (11:00/mi avg) and it’s freaking crappy on wet days like today. 60 pounds lost, great BP and VO2 max, and being healthier than I was keeps me going back even when I don’t wanna get soaked like I did today. #running

Pulling the Roland MX-1 out of storage cramped my desk space so I’m trying a new layout. Gonna have to get some much longer audio cables, though. This time around, I actually understand the MX-1 and like it. I didn’t click with it when it first came out.

Mimi would like to use her exceptional computer skills to help. She’s good at pressing keys, though her spelling and grammar are below average, so you’ll want to make an edit pass of anything she writes.

When I’m doing hills or long runs, I do think a lot about walking when I reach some arbitrary landmark.

And I do often think about feeling pretty good when I’m running…usually on the flats.

As a guy who grew up in warm temps and whose hands are extremely sensitive to being the least bit cold, running in sub-40F (~4.5C) temps isn’t my favorite. So, I dressed like a bandit…but a colorful bandit, which is on-brand for me.

Feeling pretty tired tonight but have been motivated to get back to making angry noisy industrial beats. It’s been a long time, but I got a start I was pretty happy with and can build on.

I’m usually terrible about keeping old doodads around, but I ran across this Zizzle Zounds that I bought my kiddo when she was little. It’s pretty fun, though I wish it had an audio out jack.

I bought my kiddo’s cat a set of steps that go up to my bed so her old lady legs don’t have to work so hard to get up here and watch the bird videos I put on YouTube for her when I’m working.
January 20, 2025 at 3:18 AM
I had to turned off bird videos on YouTube, but Mimi decided to stay and watch an episode of Bad Gear with me. I’m glad she’s interested in rack synthesizers as well as birds.

One of the cats, Mimi, likes watching the Apple TV screensavers from my bed. She’s an old lady and can’t jump too well so today I got her a little set of steps that leads up to my bed so she can sit and watch her stories. Last night, I put bird videos on YouTube for her. She was enthralled.

The Squarp Pyramid has a learning curve to it, but it’s pretty great, and I had to futz around with a track in Euclidean mode for giggles. This isn’t for anything other than my own edification but it’s fun.
January 5, 2025 at 11:42 PM
I’d been ideating for a few months about picking up a hardware sequencer again, and happened upon a nearby listing for a Squarp Pyramid, so…yeah. Guess I’ll get to R’ing TFM so I can make it make things go bleep bloop.

Saw some good ducks out on my run today. I’m not sure what type of calendar they use, but I hope they’re having a nice start to the people year.

Got a nice view of Mount St. Helens on my run today. Nice to be back to running. #running #slowaf

At age 54, I started running as kind of a goof to see if I could. I couldn’t make it a lap around a track. Couldn’t run a full mile for almost a month. A year later, I’m still slow as hell but I’ve got 562 miles under my feet and started cycling. Pretty amazed and happy with those results.

Checked out the Space Needle today despite my fear of heights. Even managed to stand on the glass floor and look down for a bit. I was pretty tense the whole time but it was good!

In Seattle for a couple of days and stopped by the Museum of Illusions, which was pretty fun.

Mimi likes watching Diablo IV. So many things she wants to smack.

I’m pretty sure Smokey and Sparky have no gripes with me. Those other two guys, though….
