I feel like theres a lot more i could say, but that would also get too long

The general sentiment is true though, I do have a lot of unique appreciation for that old game design before those unspoken 'rules' were properly established
October 21, 2025 at 10:33 AM
I also think it's unfair to say they werent worried about the "rules of a good game" because those rules hadnt be established yet. If you go through the histry of their games, you can see those rules start to be established as they evolved.

Also, a lot of the same ideas you talk about here i also think about and question. I just dont want to be dismissive of more traditional forms of design because of them
October 21, 2025 at 10:21 AM
It's like what the other person in these replies basically said: I think the conditions around their design has changed, but not the philosophies
October 21, 2025 at 10:15 AM
I do think there is truth in the observation, but i think it dismisses too much artistic merit. There are many ways to design a game, and since im deeply interested in game design i want to absorb and analyze all of it. I dont want to miss out on that because of preconcieved notions

games and mario party (even then i find interesting artistic decisions made in battle league and i hear good things about the recent mario parties, but i havent played any of them).

doing bold things with it's game design. I could go on about game design decisions i find interesting in just mkw and bananza. I think it makes more sense to say this about spinoff games which havent evolved much over time, which most likely are still being made for the brand, like the mario sports

I do agree that the conditions of their design has changed, but I dont think its about smoothing out their image. I think it's just a natural evolution of philosophies around game design and applies to the whole AAA industry. I actually think nintendo might be the only AAA developer who i think is

One specific solution i particularly like is using made up languages based on real ones that feels very pokemon and gives the games personality thats unique to other pokemon media

People mention the cutscenes which are animated like they have voice acting but that just makes it easier to fill in the blanks in my head
October 21, 2025 at 5:32 AM
Its hard to explain but somehow it doesnt feel unnatural to me
October 21, 2025 at 5:29 AM
i want to change it to say monopolistic intentions
October 20, 2025 at 12:53 PM
doesn't inspire critical thought in me, it only feeds anxieties. I also just do not know what Melos Han-Tani's artistic standards are, since they seem very personally infleunced by their own artistic desires.
October 20, 2025 at 12:53 PM
When I think about the innovative ideas of their works from the 90s/00s, many of them apply to their current works. I think it's true the atmosphere now is different, but I don't like how absolute this narrative is. Questioning Nintendo's intentions makes sense, but the rest of this narrative

These standards seem incredibly subjectively biased to me
