Teaching Newton on absolute space, time and motion. Today in seminar I brought my drill and a pack of cards and we made a spacetime. 😁

Today in my Philosophy of Space & Time seminar we started discussing DiSalle's "Understanding Space-Time." I told them the book is elegantly written, but maybe one of the densest texts ever. I usually run seminar as a discussion, but today was much more lecturey. Covered 4 pages in 3 hours. 😂

Been hobbled real bad by a neuroma in my foot. Got some orthotics and a shoe that’s actually wide enough for my piggies and zero drop. Still some pain but feeling good about my direction now.

Jasper National Park can make anyone look like they’re a good photographer!

Step 7:
Cleanup. I dropped the bucket while pouring into the empty oil jugs. But that’s why step 1 is to put down cardboard!

Step 8:
Pull the car out and bring in the other one, and back to step 1.

Step 9:
Take the used oil to your local hazardous waste. For me it’s 1km away.

Before putting new filter in, always good to prefill it with fresh oil. Be sure to put a little oil on the rubber gasket.

Note: ideally your catch bucket is substantially larger than the volume of oil you will be draining. Mine is just barely big enough and it causes me to panic every time.

Also, nitrile gloves if you’ve got em. Do yourself a favour… diy oil change saves you a decent chunk of money so splurge the extra 2 bucks and get yourself the heavier duty mechanic grade gloves at Costco.

Step 2b:
Gather tools. The tools are pretty basic. A bucket to catch oil, a socket for removing oil plug (google year make model oil plug size to get the socket ahead of time. It sucks to fuck around with this on your back under the car), funnel and a filter wrench
May 14, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Step 2:
Jack up the car and make sure you have a new oil filter and oil to put in. Ideally you do this step BEFORE step 3 (drain the oil)!

Oil change DIY, let’s go!

Step 1: go buy a bbq so you can have a giant piece of cardboard to put down bc there will be oil spilled. …

New article out:

“Canadian man has emerged from winter: or, roasted potatoes for dinner? Hey, might as well do em on the bbq”

It’s still below zero in the morning but afternoon is glorious

I’ve been in Canada for 15 years now and one thing that continues to amuse me is the widespread inability to parallel park. 🤣

Offspring is doing a big history project on the rise of communism in China. Was at a used bookstore and picked this up for him.
