I know the Ruby can’t fill the hole that Molly has left. Her job is to teach me that there is a Ruby-sized hole in my life that only she can fill.

We spent the morning doing car and compartment fires for some NSW Police forensic trainees. I hope they got as much out of it as I did - it’s always good to don the BA and get some practice in.

The Coalition thinks that Hamas is still in control of Gaza. Clearly, they haven’t heard of the internet, TV or the media. Which century are they living in?

Watching these expensive yachts on the harbour at Hvar makes me realise that there is a class of wealth so far above what I know as to be in a different solar system.

It was overcast for our arrival into Geneva. Although I was initially disappointed to lose the view of ‘home’, the sight of snowy peaks poking through the cloud cover was beautiful.

Today I’ve finally admitted to myself a truth that’s been creeping up on me for some time. Since Molly left us 16 months ago, my world is dimmer. It’s like the colours of life have washed away, and the light has gone.

Wonkie will be my coach for retirement. Having done nothing all morning, he is getting in a mid day snooze in preparation for any afternoon of doing nothing.

All I want for Christmas is her. It’s not going to happen, but despite that it’s still true.

It’s 5 years since I drove into Nerida with an ACTRFS striketeam just ahead of the firestorm hitting the village. The residents had retreated to the pub, and the main thing was that the pub was protected. The worst thing was hearing the screams of trapped animals.

And I thought the British were the masters of the understatement. It really feels like the USA has just given up on doing anything about gun violence.

I look at photos of Molly every day. Every time I look at a photo, I ask myself “did I know how lucky I was?”
