Agree with this logic, and I do think they were intentional about trying to get past Ja with the summer moves (including Coward), which makes me think they are more likely to trade him than most people think.

But I’m not sure that philosophy can survive without the talent. I think he will get a chance (at least to show how pragmatic he can be) because Kleiman probably can’t survive a quick coaching change.

Maybe, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this is his 6th consecutive game of the season which he wasn’t able to do last season.

Jaren is always going to be a prime asset, so they will have options if the hedge on Coward doesn’t work out that he helps the team now. I suspect that if the team wasn’t looking to move past the Ja era, they would used the assets they used for Coward for a vet forward instead.

The timeline for Coward to help this team doesn’t really fit with Ja’s timeline. And Coward is pure upside star potential, not really complementary to Ja. Maybe it works out that he helps now, but I think they are hedging their bets that if he doesn’t, they have a star for the next Grizzlies era.
