to decide her own path for herself, not be compelled. i think a lot of her pushing the tarnished away is her desire to do the same for them - refusing to compel or trick them into consortship and making sure it’s really their idea. trying to take all the suffering of empyreanhood onto herself

i also thought that at first lol! that she was just wearing a weird outfit, so no shame on that. in terms of the ring’s desc and her abandoning her body, a lot of ranni’s motives are directly connected to her theme of autonomy. she destroys her empyrean flesh and kills her two fingers bc she wants

we do see in pretty close detail what her body looks like at the end of her questline. actually quite a significant amount of her body seems to be made of rope/twine which also looks like it serves as her joint “connectors”
