All Harvard really needs is a screenshot of that post because under federal law, the president cannot direct the IRS to conduct tax investigations. In fact, IRS employees are required to report any such command to an inspector general.

But the reality is simple: the Constitution gives Congress, not the White House, authority over spending. Any move by Trump to seize or block funds would trigger a constitutional crisis and end up at the Supreme Court.

This isn’t fiscal responsibility. This is an authoritarian power grab.
