All along the watchtower--turns out we sentinels were asleep, now we're fighting inside the walls. I'm a paddler, grant writer, old rocker, recovering lyricist, activist when I gotta be. Roots down South but live "at the North." Keep fighting, friends
If I got to ask for a spirit animal it would be an osprey. Our country's in dark times, but I'm holding on to good things at hand. A peaceful 4th of July to all.

New England is just revolting--again. Gettin' frisky on ye olde village green in Falmouth. No kings, y'all.

Herring run has finally surged ahead after stalling from unseasonable cold. Today's scrum below the Quashnet fish ladder of 60+(plus a lower scrum in 2nd pic) is encouraging, but a shadow of the old days when 10s of thousands choked these streams.

Kathleen Edwards rocking out on a lovely old Gibson at the Narrows Center in Fall River, a fantastic community-run venue. These old coast towns down to Providence have a lot going on. Night started with some of the Portugese food that adds to the area's Brazilian/Azorean/Cap Verdean flavor.

HANDS OFF Rally, Rt 28 Rotary, Hyannis MA. 2K+ people easy. Me with Irene's kidnapping sign, and so many other folks. Got some fingers from Tяumpists navigating the rotary. Good trouble. It's being felt.

I'm looking forward to getting out on the bay! Too bad oyster season ended Monday, they're just laying on top of the mud where town last stocked them by the Mashpee Neck dock.

Herring in the house! Logged my first digit this year as a volunteer fish-counter monitoring this key local species. One go-getter broke loose from this scrum below the ladder and made the leap from Quashnet River into John's Pond. It's on.

Beautiful day to Fight Like Hell for the USPS and public-sector workers in Falmouth, one of over 100 such demos nationally today.

Men (and Women) Who Stare at Herring Dept.: Did my 1st herring count of the season today at the Quashnet River fish ladder into John's Pond, after a sighting here Wednesday started 2025's count in all Mashpee streams. Not too gorgeous a day, and my # was zero, but did my heart a world of good.

Another short hike down to Mashpee R., by it's mouth into the bay. Restoring this unique tidal stream with EPA $ = cost effective, with true economic benefits as well as environmental. No-brainer; hence the $ is threatened by those with...don't make me say it.

Nice hike down to the Mashpee River. Little pools in this section are hanging on, among the last havens for sea-run brook trout in the East. They'll be restored to health if we can claw in the EPA $ already awarded to us.

Meanwhile @snbogan.bsky.social and colleagues stood up for science at UC Santa Cruz, along with thousands of others in the US. Even better than rocket science-he's a marine scientist proving the effects of ocean warming, and giving us tools to think our way to survival.

Scientists from Marine Biological Laboratory, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Sea Education Association, and Woodwell Climate Research—all in 1 little town—and friends stand up for YOUR RIGHT TO NOT GO BACK TO THE MIDDLE AGES!

Not so much acting as truth walking around. Long live Gene.

This old guy has lost some pep and needs our help, but he's still got that fighting spirit. Yeah, they have new funny names, who cares? I may use canes to walk, but one of them's a shillelagh.

Never giving up my flag. Or my snarky dog (OK, mine was home, but he was well represented in Falmouth.)
