Those who are arguing that it doesn’t count on the technicality of a narrow definition of the English word “read” should look further into the etymology of the word. It fits. If you still don’t think so, well, us descriptivists will ensure the definition expands once again.

If I have listened to an audiobook and someone asks me if I have read said book, I will always answer, “Yes, I have read that book.”
