You are getting it, many are not. Big US tech companies have made a fortune in Europe. Going back more than a year already lots of talk of unwinding all of those companies out of our societies. Personally I think the huge cost still makes it unpalatable.

Agreed. Gives Trump the perfect off ramp whilst blaming Europeans for making a deal impossible. We have walked straight into a situation we can't credibly back up.

Once they have experienced the meal deal there’s no turning back.

I worked for a Chief Engineer once that referred to full on HFI as flower arranging. He was joking of course but it did reveal a true and deeper lack of respect for the discipline.

Similar Cavan and Donegal, I don’t see such a strong analogy due to the lack of history. Lots of disenfranchised but we have had hundreds of years of that on the mainland without descending into civil war. Feel free to study all this but some of the language in the article is deeply troubling.

Have you been refused service in one of those towns because of your accent? Or spent a night in a police cell for flying the flag of an out of area football team? The ‘parallels’ only show that sadly English understanding of NI is wafer thin.

I grew up close to the border in Ireland, people writing this nonsense are truly living in their own insanity. Even with the IRA blowing up nuns or random people being caught up in all it never felt even close to descending in to a civil war. Fuck every last person promoting this brain dead filth.

The cynics think today's attack on Venezuela is staged and transactional. Maduro is allied with Putin, but in 2019 Putin offered Trump a swap: Russia cedes Venezuela and gets Ukraine. (See Fiona Hill's testimony in Trump's first impeachment trial, h/t @davetroy.com). Even Maduro may be in on it. 2/

The Remain side of the campaign was lead by a PM that failed to proffer a single positive to membership, the campaign was entirely based on negative outcomes i.e project fear. Clearly our politics still hasn’t learned from that lesson in how to loose.

Honestly I think the most likely scenario is the grey zone we are already in becoming even more blurred. Whether one calls that a ‘war’ becomes entirely down to perspective.

It’s there under the surface and sadly accepted as a lesser form of bigotry, had some big bust ups online in the past around the use of gypsy or traveller slurs to describe essentially someone whom is Irish that one doesn’t approve. Saddest thing of all is seeing Irish people accepting it as banter.
