Above Avalon members were well prepared for Apple tariff exemptions being granted. Here's the *very* first thing I wrote for members after Trump won the election last November.

Assuming I am reading this statement the right way (it's a bit confusing):

- A 90-day pause on 10% blanket tariff
- All reciprocal tariffs, except for China, reduced to 10% for 90 days
- China tariffs raised to 125% (both sides playing "who will blink first" contest)

Significant development

I write a daily newsletter dedicated to Apple. Updates go over current news and developments impacting Apple, its competitors, and the industries Apple plays in (or will play in). Here are the stories discussed over the past two weeks. aboveavalon.com/aboveavalond...

I wrote the following in my latest Above Avalon Daily newsletter. aboveavalon.com/dailypremium...

The gaslighting on this topic is getting out of hand. We are at the “Apple can’t make a LLM” gaslight phase.

Narrator: Qualcomm is very nervous about Apple beginning to ship its own modems.

Kunal raises a good point. Keep in mind - devices that have Apple Intelligence will likely get the next few years of Apple Intelligence features as well. Apple Intelligence won't be just what you see today. Partly explains why Apple is going so hard with Apple Intelligence marketing push.

In what should come as a surprise to no one, Humane is done. Sold to HP for scraps.

The moral of the story: Don't bet against screens.

I wrote the following in 2023. Humane's fate was sealed before they even sold one pin.

It actually all makes perfect sense. NBA All Star Weekend has always reflected the underlying product being produced (NBA games). Since the underlying product is in long-term decline, there should be no surprise found with All Star Weekend flopping hard.

Great game UConn. Best freshman in the country in Liam McNeely. 💪

"A Work from Home Head Fake"

insideorchard.com. May 2021.

I took a lot of heat for publishing this in 2021. People called me out of touch and stuck in the past. Today, people now say "of course it was a head fake."

Work from home was one of the largest head fakes to come from the pandemic. Hybrid work arrangements now being canned and replaced with five days in the office.

(P.S. Evidence is building that Dell is starting to feel the impact from Apple silicon Macs.)

A big (tech) question found with Elon Musk's close involvement with Trump is how Musk would treat competitors when it comes to policy. Musk going after OpenAI on X, after Trump spoke very highly of OpenAI, suggests there is a (hard) limit to Musk's influence.

Can't stop thinking about this.

Some of the best guerrilla marketing from Apple, in this case Apple TV+, in recent memory.

I’ll say it again. UConn is a top 10 team. They are only getting better. 💪

Apple doesn't have some kind of product czar who dictates every and any product decision. Such a role would not work with a ~$4 trillion company possessing an expansive ecosystem of devices, software, and services. Instead, Apple has fully embraced small team autonomy.

Not enough people want to admit how the Apple CEO role now requires being deeply intertwined with diplomacy. This will only intensify as Apple grows, becoming more powerful relative to individual countries and governments.
