2024 was the Year of Retrospectives of the masters! Whether it be films by Nancy Savoca and Edward Yang, or John Cassavetes, Akira Kurosawa and the Iranian New Wave: 1962-79, venturing out to the movies for such retrospectives is a pilgrimage I would look back on fondly for the rest of my life.

Recently I saw The Misfits on the big screen for the first time and I cannot get over this comeback by Clark Gable after getting rejected by Marilyn Monroe! I guffawed out loud in the theatre

Hanging at the Ritz so I can lose a phone number written on a piece of paper like a Kaurismaki protagonist. Movies have been great. 4K restorations of Yojimbo, Sanjuro & Paris Texas. Finally saw The People's Joker in cinemas. Being unburdened from new releases has been liberating to say the least ❤️

Seeing Kurosawa restored on the big screen has been such an amazing experience + an education 😍

I don't have the courage to rewatch this film. But, I wrote a little bit about my favourite scene from the movies this year in 2024, from Aaron Schimberg's A DIFFERENT MAN.
