i feel like it’s not really a real novel unless it includes random tangents and/or rants on tangentially related stuff

i really like the whaling rants moby dick goes on often. sure it may not have that much relevance to the ongoing plot, but i think it gracefully slows down the pacing where it should be slowing down (ie in a voyage where nothing much happens) and it’s an interesting bunch of facts to learn

i’ve got to study at least some of hakushi hasegawa’s songs, but first i’m gonna try and study some tchaikovsky and rachmaninov. id love to have at least some of the rhythmic and harmonic elements of hasegawa’s music
