imagine if we removed everything that made animal crossing charming and engaging and replaced it with a banal decorating sim where everything is too dependent on the whims of the player for it to feel like a living breathing town and just limiting enough to where if you do wanna decorate it’s annoying as shit. i do not want this much agency when im playing an animal crossing game i want to feel like i am a part of the town not that the town is an extension of my will. like the villagers aren’t allowed to leave without my permission they aren’t allowed to put a house down where they want they aren’t allowed to say unkind things to me they are literally just another piece of outdoor furniture its no wonder people started trafficking them on nookazon! also i get it was a covid launch but man i cannot stand the “launch a half finished game and drip feed the rest of the content later” approach this game used. somehow they had us convinced that someday it would have as much content as new leaf did at launch and then by the end of the update cycle it still literally didn’t. there should’ve been new stores and upgrades to things other than the museum two times for some reason (???) but the best we got was harv’s island, which came ridiculously too late and just is not the same. and if you’re one of those people who will say “oh they couldn’t have added new buildings that’d have messed with the island designs!” i will thank you for pointing out a great example of why the overemphasis on design made this game worse :)
