He/Him. Master of Mechanical and Maligned. Creator of Savage Heresy and its spin off Savage Death, the Ars Magica Auto Library; the world's of the Shattered Crown, The Call and The Tripact Empire.
Alot of people did go south, overcrowding the region meeting "only destruction, famine and death". The great Strom that everyone is fleeing from in FP1 comes from the south (somehow).

Ah the good old gift of conditional money

Beyond the narritive function that dragon is angling at, Lasers (from what I remember) are really effective at what they do; for the size of them, they out compete with anything else in function. Ie armour and hardened structures

Well possibly it adds the dynamic that Mutually Assured Destruction brings with Atomics, but able to be brought on by a smaller personal scale. A way to ramp tension or throw a wrench into a scene where one or the other decive would be useful.

The writer wanted cool Lasers, but wanted to maintain that 90% of combat was done with melee weapons?

And yes, you comments on the series is what got me to start them, so thanks!

That growth is also fairly critical from what im guessing is part of the plot of the book, comparing him now to a likeness of his past self

It is what put me off FATE/Diaspora, and Miles (as of start of Mirror Dance at least) is significantly better, mentally, emotially and physically then he has been through the rest of the series; which from my limited experience of FATE, didn't really allow.

One interpretation of the running water issue i quite like, is that because of modern plumbing amd sewage, Vampire are mostly a rural affair due to all the pipes underground in cities

The RT campaign concept of: You have spent your families vast fortune to dig up and repair this ancient, massive, powerful but "empty" hull; now you must go and fulfill its potential, keep it from the hands of your rivals and enemies, and rebuild your empire. This calls to me constantly.

I had a similar thought, but with the Mars pattern Battlecruiser which I believe you can get 3 a side; but it also has an innate armoured prow; which by one reading of the rules, can also be fitted with a power ram. So hordes of bombers and fighters for range and a terrifying ram for close.

The small sizes makes people deflate the earlier numbers without considering the significant variance in the power and abilities of states between the medieval and late antiquity period; or between the more organised states to the east (which methods the mongols adopted) and the west.

Army size is difficult to judge and often debated by historians. On o e hand time and propaganda efforts inflate numbers but onnthe other there genuinely was some massive armies in the antiquity era. The small army size of the Europeran medieval period causes confusion for people as well.

Yeah, people give it shit but it's the reason why climbable ledges are painted yellow often in video games; even people great at games will miss painfully obvious things

I run in to this issue alot with TTRPGs, as small teams or solo developers can easily fall into the trap of their assumptions being clear in their work but its either not, or it was but at some point in rewrites the ideas becme muddled or unclear

I think it also needs to be clear about how it wants to be played for that to really work. So many times I've seen someone play a game wrong, and stick with it to the detriment of their experience because they tried to play how they thought it was "supposed" to be played, which was completely wrong.

It appears you already do, but I would suggest having a different/additional format choice with the commentary, red and black text can be difficult to differentiate for people with colour blindness (potentially also the blue, the reds the one I have trouble with)

I think combining the attack AND damage roll into the same die kinda suits naval warfare, with different size ships having a damage range so a 3 on a DD might be bad but on a BB its minor, but to represent over pen, a 10 on a DD just does minor damage but the BB might take critical effects
July 25, 2025 at 7:19 AM
Oh, so the d6 are the attack dice, not the damage dice? When you say dnd 4e, you mean the structure of at will/encounter/daily? I was brainstorming the idea of bigger guns = bigger die; so your cruiser rolls like 8d6 with fast firing guns but the BB roll like 4d12
July 25, 2025 at 7:17 AM
I would have destroyer, cruiser, battleship, carrier, sub and Logistics and then you have space for multi/sub classes like battlecruiser, raider sub, escort carrier etc.
July 24, 2025 at 6:24 AM
Battleship at wills are refreshing encounter abilities, encounter abilities are the big guns. Carriers are big combo builders, powers are weak by themselves, but the more you have up the more that synergise between them but are fragile to maintain. Subs are slow rogues. Logistic ships as clerics
July 24, 2025 at 6:15 AM
Ok, take Wold of Warships as a guide for class and progression. Ship classes = DnD classes. Nationality of design/ crew can be your DnD Race or/and 5e backgrounds. Destroyer at-wills are spot and set up status with minor damage, Enc are your torp (high dmg), daily is utility ie smoke or mines e

Jadeclaw did a decent job at it imo, each species got three skills and abilities which followed trends of how and where the animal exists naturally, then you had a stat that relates to how intense your natural form is but importantly it was only one part of your character so could be defining or not

Cain would be the easiest to adapt, but rogue trader would be the best for showing the breadth of the setting and ideas. I believe you could do a lower budget dark heresy adaptation which could hit the same beats but would be not as good.
