How it stated v. How it’s going.
Making a character for an upcoming Valiant Horizon campaign. Started with the inspo “Oni-bastard fire bug” and went from there. This might be the glowup I’m most proud of between the first (blue-skin) draft and the final product.

I’m currently playing Selvacorzhe (Corshy for short) in a Pathfinder campaign. She’s mechanically an awakened spider who’s been reflavoured as humanoid spider-folk.

Scratches (2006)
A point-and-click horror adventure mystery, this game doesn’t have a lot of action but has some amazing atmosphere. The ending has a cool (if just OK in execution) twist. It’s also the 1st commercial adventure game to come out of Argentina according to Wiki.

Star Wars: Episode I: Battle for Naboo! (2000)
A 3rd-person vehicle game with a great blend of ground and air combat. I’ll always remember the excitement of fleeing enemy ships from the ground and then flying out of the hanger in an N-1 star fighter. If this have ever got remastered, I would die.

Blasphemous, a retro-look Souls-like Metroidvania. It’s got amazing movement feel, gorgeous art and a metric butt-ton of gory Renaissance Catholicism body horror. And it has a sequel!

Can’t believe it took me this long to mention it, but CARRION from 2020!
A 2D game (I wanna say Metroidvania) where you play as the grotesque, The Thing-like alien monster that is killing and eating a base full of soldiers and scientists. Great mechanics and love the feel of zooting around 😂

Time for a much-less niche response, lol: The Long Dark!
A wilderness survival game set in Northern Canada, there are not many games that have come nearly as close as being fully immersive for me. This game made me feel cold, tired and thirsty just by playing it. 10/10

Keepsake from 2006. A point-and-click puzzle game set in a wizard’s school with a strange mystery afoot. The ending was a bit disappointing, ngl, but the aesthetics and visuals are just phenomenal.

Going to do another two-for, bc playing Witness got me onto Islands of Insight (from Behavior, of DBD fame!). Very similar game, but with more obvious story and also multiplayer options. I also love the aesthetics.

Here’s a weird one: The Witness (2016). It’s a very open-ended puzzle game, sort of Myst-esque but really open world. The puzzles take many forms and are scattered around an island. Although they don’t need to be done in any particular order, there are clues everywhere to help!

The next one is a two-for: Star Wars real-time strategy games (there have only been 3)
Force Commander (2000) and Empire at War (2006) were two fantastic games set during the original trilogy and a little beyond. Played them both to no end.

I give you the Avernum series! Coming out of Spiderweb Software, this isometric turn-based RPG (Avernum IV, originally purchased on Big Fish Games) is such a great D&D-like experience. The character customization is amazing, and Spiderweb turned out loads of great games.

Again, going to a deep-cut with one of my all-time favourite games:
X-Wing vs TIE Fighter - Balance of Power (the original X-W v TF was only multiplayer and didn’t have a campaign, but the Balance of Power expansion fixed that). I need to replay Squadrons, bc that did the best job of replicating it.

A franchise that I’ve loved for ages, gotta go with Civilization!
I got my taste with a heavily discounted CD of Civilization III, but then really hit hyperfixation-territory with Civ IV (particularly the Beyond the Sword expansion; I still think about the Fall from Heaven: Age of Ice scenario)

Ravilan (She/They)! She’s struggled a bit growing up in the shadow of siblings who definitely had their lives together more than she, but at least she has a great girlfriend (who unfortunately is the princess of the empire, and their secret relationship is far from sanctioned).
